BLOG NUMBER 7: 16th February 2026
Today looms behind
As yester dreams of morrow
The future is now
That master of all our fates known as time seems to have taken a big leap forward when I wasn't looking. Indeed, when last I typed on this blog it was approaching New Year's eve... and now we are on the eve of the Tet holiday here in Vietnam, a time for family gatherings and relaxing, unwinding and recharging as the Fire Horse rears up on its blazing hind legs for an energetic twelve months of writing for me, hopefully.
In the six weeks since, I have been working sporadically on the second Mookey book, The Book of Fiffle, while undertaking some other secret projects which I am sworn to silence on. But, as these are not mookey-related, I don't need to dwell on them here. The only reason I mention them is to have a good excuse if The Book of Fiffle does not meet its self-imposed deadline of August 22nd.
If you have not already read it, my novella The Legend of Zuluzog is available for free on most Ebook stores. Give it a go, especially if you enjoyed The Book of Mook, as it fills in some more details from that. But it too is a stand-alone tale and makes a good entry point into the mookeyverse.
I plan to write another short story following Fiffle's adventures, hopefully a bit shorter this time. I didn't intend Zuluzog to turn into a novella, but there you are. You have to flow with the river as, just like time, water is a powerful thing, not to be trifled with. Trying to control either is a futile task. Sure, you can freeze yourself or build a dam, but it doesn't change anything in the end. Surely then, it's much easier to relax, let the path ahead be forged for us and follow in its wake, or failing that, let it sweep us along with it, as was Marks way.
For myself, I am more of a follower, as I would rather have a bit of a view ahead of me. I don't want to leap boldly around a corner without having a good peek first, for example. But with that wonderous thing called writing, we can have our characters do the peeking for us. We build them, then let them loose.
I will try and update more when more news comes my way. But for now, I simply will wish you all a happy year ahead, full of health and success,
King regards,
Philip Wyatt
